Immunotherapy for malignant glioma
Malignant gliomas (MG) are the most common type of primary malignant brain tumor. Most patients diagnosed with glioblastoma (GBM), the most common and malignant glial tumor, die within 12-15 months. Moreover, conventional treatment, which includes surgery followed by radiation and chemotherapy, can be highly toxic by causing nonspecific damage to healthy brain and other tissues. The shortcoming...
متن کاملChaperones and Glioma Immunotherapy
Molecular chaperones, also known as heat-shock proteins or HSPs, are a functionally conserved class of proteins whose primary function is to keep cellular proteins in their native conformation, under both physiological and stress conditions. In most cases these chaperones do not participate in the final mature structures that their ‘clients’ form. Apart from folding, chaperones play vital roles...
متن کاملImmune-Checkpoint Blockade and Active Immunotherapy for Glioma
Cancer immunotherapy has made tremendous progress, including promising results in patients with malignant gliomas. Nonetheless, the immunological microenvironment of the brain and tumors arising therein is still believed to be suboptimal for sufficient antitumor immune responses for a variety of reasons, including the operation of "immune-checkpoint" mechanisms. While these mechanisms prevent a...
متن کاملImmunotherapy for glioma: getting closer to the clinical arena?
PURPOSE OF REVIEW During recent years different approaches have been explored to raise effective antitumor responses against brain tumors and particularly glioblastomas (GBMs). In most cases, cancer vaccines were based on autologous dendritic cells loaded with GBM peptides or whole tumor lysates. Many phase I-II studies showed that such strategy is feasible and nontoxic but failed to provide co...
متن کاملImmunotherapy for Breast Cancer Treatment
Breast cancer, as a heterogeneous disease, includes a wide range of pathological and clinical behaviors. Current treatment protocols, including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and hormone replacement therapy, are mainly associated with poor response and high rate of recurrence. Therefore, more efforts are needed to develop alternative therapies for this type of cancer. Immunotherapy, as a novel str...
